This Canadian Jewish Book Award winner describes Nini Karpel's life in
Vienna where she was born and grew up, and the circumstances of Nazi
occupation and persecution that drove the family to flee. They found refuge
with 18,000 Jewish refugees in Shanghai, managing to survive a hair-raising
