Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George’s Creators
Narrated by Sam Waterson
Since 1941 when the first Curious George book was published, this lively little monkey has delighted countless children with his antics. Combining original animation, photographs, interviews and archival materials, the documentary film, Monkey Business, explores the extraordinary lives of Hans and Margret Rey, the creators behind this beloved character.
The Reys (both Jewish) grew up in Germany and married in 1935. They honeymooned in Paris and barely escaped Nazi-occupied France, but they got out thanks to Hans’ creativity and some makeshift bicycles. Pedaling for miles to the South of France, they finally made it to the United States by way of Portugal and Brazil. Safely in America, the Reys sold their original Curious George manuscript and the adventures began.
