From Chaos to Calm โ€“ 6 Ways to Beat Back-to-School Stress

Back-to-school starts early this year—Monday, August 11, in Broward County—and we know many of our J parents are already deep in the lists, lunches and logistics.

It’s a season of planning, prepping and pushing through. But while you’re showing up for your family, we want to remind you to show up for yourself, too.

At the David Posnack JCC, we believe wellness is more than a gym membership—it’s a lifestyle of self-kindness, connection and care.

So here are six simple ways to shift from chaos to calm—and reconnect with your well-being:

๐Ÿ’™ 1. Breathe with intention.

Try this calming reset: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds and hold for 4 seconds. Repeat three times whenever you need to center. You may skip holding your breath in and/or out until you become comfortable with this exercise.

๐Ÿ’™ 2. Take 15 minutes just for you!

Meditation. Quiet. A moment of stillness. No phone. No pressure. Just you.

*Suggestion: take 15 minutes to do a Loving and Kindness Mindfulness Meditation. Find a comfortable seating position and a quiet space. Search YouTube for “Loving-Kindness meditation” and follow the guided recordings. Watch a video with Letty, our yoga instructor here

๐Ÿ’™ 3. Move your body.

Swim laps, stretch, walk or take a class at the J. Movement releases stress and reconnects you to your body. Take a lap around our indoor track, try a new yoga pose, or play a game of pickleball.

๐Ÿ’™ 4. Add joy to your calendar.

A solo coffee. A deep breath outside. An outing with friends. Joy doesn’t have to be earned—it can be scheduled. Take the time to plan something just for you, whether it’s trying a new restaurant or taking a walk in the park.

๐Ÿ’™ 5. Fuel your body.

Stay hydrated and support your body with protein to build strength and balance hormones. Reduce your intake of food with added sugars. Water-rich fruits, veggies, and colorful salads count too! Try our health-conscious options at Bagel Boss and the Square Bowl Food Truck!

๐Ÿ’™ 6. You are doing enough.

This season doesn’t have to be perfect. Be present. Be kind. You’re doing more than enough—and we see you.

Stop by the J for your wellness moment—a swim, a stretch, a steam or just a breath of calm in your day.

๐Ÿ’™ We’re here for you, every step of the way.
