This hands-on class will focus on basic skills to help students become more independent in taking care of themselves and their home. Activities will include household chores, choosing and caring for clothing, using money, shopping, community awareness and basic job skills.

Superhero Obstacle Challenge

Superheroes can train with Ysaac, a certified personal trainer.  We offer a variety of ways that a superhero may get in shape and stay fit.  You will learn the basics of fitness, balance and coordination through obstacle courses.  Each class will start a warm-up, followed by a different obstacle course each week.

Hip Hop Dance Party 

This course is designed to teach theater to those with physical and developmental disabilities.  Volunteers work with the special needs students on and off stage. The classes enhance verbal skills, improve movement, build self-confidence and advance socialization while stimulating free thinking.  The actors help pick a theme and write a script for the class’s end of school year performance.

Boxing

This non-impact class will cover basic skills a such as stance, guard, movement, jab, cross, hook. It will include cardio calisthenics and core strengthening exercises. Participants will improve strength and balance and gain self-confidence.

The benefits of swimming for children and adults with special needs range from enhancing gross motor and cognitive skills, to increasing muscle strength, endurance and improvement in overall communication skills.  Swimming fosters courage, confidence, trust and helps to develop friendships.  It' is great for socialization and relaxation. 

Ages: 6-12

Functional Fitness Exercise 

This course is twice a week.  The Adaptive Athlete Functional Fitness program is to train musacles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements done at work, home or a sports arena.  Functional fitness emphasizes core stability needed to enhance the functions of daily living.  The experienced coaches adapt these exercises to anyone's ability.

Cost: Members - $275 • Community - $300  (Fee includes Thursday's class)

This class will focus on basic life skills for planning and preparing simple meals for daily living. Students will have fun learning to use kitchen appliances and tools while making meals that can be replicated in their home setting.

Artsy-Craftsy

Students will work on creative projects using paints, chalk, pastels, glue and a variety of materials. Skills enhanced include coordination and motor skills, encouraging self-expression, choice-making, and following directions. Completed works will be displayed in an art show near the end of the session.

This course will uncover the best in persons with diverse abilities and open the door to self-confidence and self-esteem.

This fun and creative class explores the magic of movies and music videos. Students will be the “star of the show” as they participate in the creation and production of a short video. Making movies with new friends encourages socialization and speech. Students will develop and review their scripts, which aids in comprehension and fluidity.
