Company (ETC) classes begin January 21 2018.
There will be no classes held on December 24, 2017-January 8, 2018; January 14 & 15, 2018; February 18 & 19, 2018

Life Skills: The Fundamentals 

This hands-on class will focus on basic skills to help students become more independent in taking care of themselves and their home. Activities will include household chores, choosing and caring for clothing, using money, shopping, community awareness and basic job skills.

Ages: Youth (ages 16-17) & Adults (ages 18 & up)
Cost: $75

Drama with Exceptional Theater Company

This course is designed to teach theater to those with physical and developmental disabilities.  Volunteers work with the special needs students on and off stage. The classes enhance verbal skills, improve movement, build self-confidence and advance socialization while stimulating free thinking.  The actors help pick a theme and write a script for the class’s end of school year performance.

Ages: Youth (ages 12*-17) & Adults (ages 18 & up)
Cost: $140 plus $25 materials fee/year

Lead Instructors: Evelyn Richard

*Ages under 12 must be approved by director.

This course is designed to teach theater to those with physical and developmental disabilities.  Volunteers work with the special needs students on and off stage. Hip Hop Dance Party

This fun dance class will include hip hop moves and all your favorite follow-alongs and line dances like the Electric Slide, and many more! Dancers will improve coordination, agility and body awareness while moving to the music.

Ages: Youth (ages 13-17) & Adults (ages 18 & up)
Cost: DPJCC Members - $140 • Community - $165

Basketball

This is a comprehensive class that will enhance skills, teamwork and sportsmanship for all ages. Students will learn skills in shooting, passing and dribbling and techniques in offense and defense.

Age: Youth (ages 6-17)

Boxing

This non-impact class will cover basic skills a such as stance, guard, movement, jab, cross, hook. It will include cardio calisthenics and core strengthening exercises. Participants will improve strength and balance and gain self-confidence.

This class includes fun and engaging hands-on activities to help students learn life skills necessary to achieve self-sufficiency and success as an independent member of society. Activities will include managing money and finances; decision making; vocational opportunities; finding a job; and skills and habits needed for work. Participants will use computers for prevocational activities.

Ages: Youth (ages 16-17) & Adults (ages 18 & up)

In the J’s fitness center, students will use weight and cardio machines to build strength, stamina and self-esteem.

This is the ultimate dance-fitness party where students will “play it loud” with age-appropriate music, rock with friends and begin their journey to a healthy future. This class will help with self-esteem, coordination and socialization.

Students will work on creative projects using paints, chalk, pastels, glue and a variety of materials. Skills enhanced include coordination and motor skills, encouraging self-expression, choice-making, and following directions. Completed works will be displayed in an art show near the end of the session.

Let's Make a Movie...Starring U!

This fun and creative class explores the magic of movies and music videos. Students will be the “star of the show” as they participate in the creation and production of a short video. Making movies with new friends encourages socialization and speech. Students will develop and review their scripts, which aids in comprehension and fluidity. A completed film will be shown at the end of the session.
