Set in 1919 during the Harlem Renaissance, this historical novel follows Jessie Redmon Fauset, a Washington, D.C., teacher who becomes the first Black woman to serve as literary editor of The Crisis. As she pursues her literary ambitions and helps shape a new generation of Black writers, Jessie must also protect a secret that could threaten everything she has worked to achieve.

Set during the Holocaust in Salonika, Greece, The Little Liar follows Nico, an honest boy forced by the Nazis to deceive fellow Jews bound for Auschwitz. Spanning from World War II to the 1980s, the novel explores guilt, truth, forgiveness and revenge through Nico’s relationships with his brother, Sebastian, and a young woman named Fannie. It is a story about the devastating consequences of deception and the search for redemption

Set in the 1960s, The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick follows four suburban housewives who form a book club inspired by Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique. As they confront personal challenges and question society’s expectations, the women discover the power of friendship, self-discovery and changing roles for women.

The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brian
The Things They Carried (1990) is a seminal collection of linked short stories detailing the experiences of Alpha Company soldiers during the Vietnam War. Blending fiction with autobiography, it explores emotional burdens, memory, and the power of storytelling over raw facts, often focusing on the contrast between physical items and intense psychological loads.
