GIBCONNECT PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN & ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES 
FOR AGES 6 AND UP

The David Posnack JCC provides programs for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities that provide opportunities to learn life skills, be creative, build strength, confidence and coordination, socialize and make friendships.
GibConnect’s mission is to help participants stay connected, either in-person or virtually (through Zoom).

Class Descriptions

  • ACTABILITY
    WITH DEBBIE LOMBARD 
    “All the world is a stage” - This theater class combines the inspiration of music, acting and dance. Gain self-confidence and social skills while you get into the groove and discover that you have the ability to act in all of life’s situations. After completion of the class, the participants will perform in an end-of-the-year showcase. 
  • Adventure of Sign Language Class
    With Diana Plager -ASL professional sign language interpreter  
    Embark on an exciting journey of communication and culture with our Adventure of Sign Language Class! This immersive and interactive course is designed to introduce Participants to the rich world of sign language, providing a comprehensive understanding of this vibrant and expressive form of communication.
  • ARTSY CRAFTSY
    WITH TARA EVANS 
    Students work on creative projects using paints, chalk, pastels, glue and a variety of materials. Skills include coordination and fine motor skills, encouraging self-expression, choice-making and following directions. Completed works will be displayed in an art show at our end of the year. 
  • BASKETBALL
    WITH COACH JASON STURA
    This is a comprehensive class that enhances basketball skills, teamwork and sportsmanship for all ages. Students learn skills in shooting, passing and dribbling and techniques in offense and defense.
  • BOOST Hire-ability
    This hands-on class focuses on basic skills to help students become more independent in taking care of themselves and their home. Activities include household chores, choosing and caring for clothing, using money, shopping, community awareness and basic job skills.

  • BRUNCH BUNCH
    Join us for a special lunch bunch on Sundays with your Giborim friends. Engage in a unique lunch-making activity to build your kitchen confidence while you socialize at the J! Class ends with the bunch enjoying their homemade lunch together. 

  • COOKING: BACK TO BASICS 
    WITH CHEF JULIA STEINER
    This class is a fun, hands-on class that teaches the students, basic life skills of cooking. These delicious and nutritious recipes also teach preparation and organizational skills.  Every week the participants will receive a short list of ingredients that helps them work with their recipes. We will provide the ingredients for a small supply fee.  *$15 additional supply fee
  • COSMIC PRETZEL
    WITH JILL ADLER 
    This class for all ages offers the opportunity to stay physically fit and have tons of fun while learning relaxation techniques through imaginative yoga games. Students will laugh, exercise, breathe and reduce stress. Most important is the smiles this class will create. 
  • Film Creator’s Studio
    Welcome to our Film Creator's Studio Class, a creative and supportive environment designed to explore the art of filmmaking with a green screen. This unique program provides a safe and nurturing space where participants can express themselves, unleash their creativity, and learn the basics of film production.
  • HEALTHY, FIT AND FUN OBSTACLE COURSE
    WITH TRACEY HECHT
    The group fitness class creates a personalized environment for everyone to pursue their fitness and health goals. This class incorporates the use of body weights, obstacle courses and exercise to teach the lifelong benefits of staying fit along with building self-esteem, stronger bodies, obtaining balance and endurance. This innovative program taught by a licensed professional is your ticket to better coordination, strength building and health living.
  • HEROES CHEER TEAM
    WITH CARA YONTZ 

    Heroes Cheer Team is a Co-ed Special Needs All-Star team for athletes of all abilities who want to cheer, dance and perform. Heroes Cheer offers friends, fun, music, dancing, cheering and the opportunity to perform in front of enthusiastic crowds increasing our athletes’ courage and confidence! The class is taught by Cara Yontz, Giborim United’s staff professional who has years of experience as a cheer coach. Cara creates a safe and fun environment needed to learn the sport of cheerleading. Cheerleading offers traditional values, positive role models and a family atmosphere that teaches our participants “life lessons” that will remain with them forever. 
  • HIP-HOP DANCE CLASS
    WITH HIP HOP KIDZ 
    This fun dance class includes hip-hop moves, all the follow-a-longs from your favorite music videos, plus line dances like the electric slide and more. The participants improve coordination, agility and body awareness while moving to the music. 
  • HIRE-Ability Test Kitchen
    With Bubbe & Howie 
    An inclusive cooking class both in person and virtual. In this warm and welcoming environment, participants have the opportunity to learn essential cooking skills, explore diverse recipes, and engage in culinary experiences that promote independence and self-confidence. Led by our knowledgeable and patient instructor, Bubbe (tern for grandmother) and Howard Fleischer, HIRE-Ability Food Truck Coordinator. This class encourages creativity, teamwork, and the development of life skills, and a love for learning how to prepare delicious food that will be featured on our Food Truck 

  • KARATE AMERICA
    WITH BEN POLSKY

    We teach empowerment to our students to build the inside to be able to protect the outside. You will learn basic knowledge of self-defense with the understanding that the ultimate goal is to create time and space.  Fun fitness and structure-based classes are professionally taught and positively reinforced. 

  • READY, SET, GO FITNESS
    WITH JILL ADLER
    This class will challenge your strength and endurance by using boxing-style movements, obstacle courses and fitness. Participants' stamina will build through increasing repetitive fitness tasks. This class is made possible by a grant from Autism Speaks. 
  • STAR-HOOPERS BASKETBALL
    Get ready to dribble, shoot, and score with our exciting Star Hoopers Basketball Class tailored for young athletes aged 5 to 8! This dynamic and engaging program is specifically designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of basketball in a fun and supportive environment.
  • SWIM
    With Julie
    The benefits of swimming include enhancing gross motor and cognitive skills, increasing muscle strength, endurance and improvement in overall communication skills. Swimming fosters courage, confidence, trust and helps to develop friendships. It’s great for socialization and relaxation.
  • UNIQUE COMEDY AND IMPROV PERFORMERS
    WITH MARTY LANZ
    This class features creative characterization through the use of comedy and improv. We'll develop scenes using skits and creating our own unique scripted show!
  • THE VOICE IN U, A CHORUS ENSEMBLE
    WITH MISS JOAN
    Music is a way to express and release emotions. The Voice in U will enhance social skills, build self-confidence and self-esteem. The class will conclude with a Voice in U concert. 
  • YOGA
    WITH COOKIE BILLIG 
    This yoga class is a wonderful space for a family member to spend quality bonding time. It gives both a chance to relax, disconnect and refocus through a series of breathing, movement and stretches. 
  • FUNKY FITNESS
    Enjoy the benefits of dance in a supportive and empowering environment. In this class, we celebrate the unique abilities of each participant while encouraging self-expression, movement, plus social interaction through the joy of fitness and dance. Whether you're looking to boost your physical fitness, improve coordination, or simply have a great time dancing, this class has something to offer for everyone ages 6-11
