The 2020 Census is here and a complete and accurate count in Broward is critical in shaping our future for the next ten years.
The 2020 Census count will impact the distribution of about $1.5 trillion annually in federal funds to state and local communities across the country for the next ten years. The money supports vital federal programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, hospitals, nursing homes, and community health centers, affordable housing, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), schools, Head Start, emergency services, and so much more.
All responses to the 2020 Census are safe, secure, and protected by federal law. The Census Bureau is required by law to keep all information confidential and use household responses only for statistical purposes. In fact, all Census Bureau employees take a lifetime oath to protect your personal information and any violation comes with severe penalties.
In addition, the census count is used to reapportion the U.S. House of Representatives and to redraw state legislative districts. It's clear the Census data impacts all of our lives in some way every day!
This year, you can respond online, by phone, or by mail, using your 12-digit Census ID you received in the mail. If you do not have your 12-digit ID, you can use your home address instead.
